Cebu College Education

Cebu is the educational center of central and southern Philippines, and second to Manila in the entire country.
  1. University of San Carlos (USC): One of the top universities and the oldest school of the Philippines, it was established in 1595 during the Spanish colonial era formerly known as Colegio de San Ildefonso. Carolinians is a nickname of its students. With its four campuses housing all levels of educational programs, USC is truly a “university-city” in its own right. International linkages and a steady influx of foreign students and visiting professors have made USC a multicultural academic community bonded by the common pursuit for global standards.

  2. University of the Visayas (UV): A nine-campus, province-wide system of higher education and lower level laboratory schools, is the first school granted a university status in Cebu. It was founded by the late Don Vicente A. Gullas in 1919 as the Visayan Institute. The campuses are: The UV-Main, a six multi-storey buildings including a gymnasium. The Gullas Medical Center houses medicine-related institutions and courses. UV has a port in Punta Engaño, Lapulapu City for the Maritime College's students practical training at sea.                                                                                                                                   Locations: 1.   3. Southwestern University(SWU): A private university and a recognized leader in medical, paramedical, teacher education, business and entrepreneurship, information technology, and language proficiency. It was founded in 1946 as Southwestern Colleges by the founders Don Matias Hipolito Chavez Aznar II and his wife, Doña Anunciacion Barcenilla Aznar, both pharmacists. It has 3 campuses. The Main Campus houses the colleges of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, Computer Studies, Criminology, Dentistry, Engineering, Graduate School, Law, Maritime, Medical Technology, Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Teachers College, Sacred Heart Hospital, Pathology and Biology Museums, Library, Interfaith Chapel, Botanical Garden and the Administrative Offices. The 2nd campus houses Aznar Memorial Coliseum, a ballpark and the Anunciacion B. Aznar building which houses the College of Nursing. The South Campus houses the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.                                                                                                      Location: 1.   4. Cebu Doctor's University (CDU): A private medical university established in 1975 as Cebu Doctor's College and granted university status in 2005 catering mainly to courses related to the health services field. It consists of 8 colleges in the areas of nursing, dentistry, optometry, medicine, allied medical sciences, rehabilitative sciences, pharmacy and the medicine-related arts and sciences and a graduate school.          Location: Dr. P.V.   5. Cebu Normal University (CNU): Established in 1915, it has 3 campuses. The Main Campus houses the College of Teacher Education (CTE), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and the College of Nursing( CN), a museum, the Integrated Laboratory School (ILS), the Graduate School (GS) and Balay Alumni. In 2008, CNU established 2 extension colleges.                                                                                                                                                    Locations: 1.   6. University of Cebu(UC): A private, non-sectarian coeducational school established in 1964, it has 4 campuses: UC-Main; UC-Banilad which houses the ICT courses and nursing; UC-LM; UC-METC houses the marine-related courses.                              Location: Main: Sanciangko Street, Cebu City; UC-ICT: Gov.
