About Cebu

Cebu Province comprises a large main island which is a slightly diagonally-positioned, elongated-shaped island plus many small islands, and are located in the very heart of the Philippine archipelago.

Cebu Metro is the second largest urban area in the country, which is also located in the center of the island province.

Cebu City is the core of the metropolis and is politically-independent from the provincial government.

Visayas is the central part of the Philippines and the word is derived from "Sri Vijaya", powerful Buddhist Empire  centered on Sumatra Island on Indonesia, who reached the area around the 11th century.

Linguistically, Visayas means all the areas inhabited by the Visayan-speaking people, and that includes most parts of Mindanao - the southern part of the country. Cebuano dialect comprises the largest part of the Visayan language family. And because of that, even if it is a misnomer, the terms Cebuano and Visayan are used interchangeably.
